On Saturday, May 10, 2025, members of the North Bellmore Fire Department proudly participated in the 18th Annual Chuck Varese Vehicle Extrication Tournament, hosted by the Northport Fire Department. This event brings together fire departments from across Long Island to compete in simulated vehicle rescue scenarios, enhancing their skills and fostering camaraderie among first responders.

The tournament honors the memory of Northport firefighter Chuck Varese. His legacy lives on through this event, which emphasizes the importance of training and teamwork in emergency situations. This tournament is about learning new techniques that ultimately contribute to saving lives.

This year’s competition featured over 30 teams from departments across Long Island, all demonstrating their proficiency in vehicle extrication techniques. The North Bellmore team showcased their dedication and expertise, reinforcing their commitment to public safety and continuous improvement.
